Lahore High Court Dismisses Petitions Against Outsourcing of Govt Schools
The Lahore High Court has dismissed petitions challenging the Punjab government’s decision to outsourcing Govt schools under the Public-Private Partnership program. Justice Shahid Karim presided over the hearing, where notable petitioners, including Aitzaz Ahsan, presented their arguments.
Petitioners’ Arguments
The petitioners argued that the Punjab government’s initiative to outsource government schools was unlawful. They expressed concerns that outsourcing would:
- Lead to an increase in fees.
- Deprive children from underprivileged families of access to basic education.
The petitioners requested the court to declare the government’s decision null and void.
Government’s Position
The government counsel defended the program, stating that closed government schools are being outsourced through Public-Private Partnerships to improve functionality. It was further clarified that even outsourced schools would remain under the supervision of the Punjab government.
Court’s Verdict
After reviewing the arguments, the Lahore High Court dismissed the petitions, allowing the government’s program to proceed.
The decision marks a significant step in the outsourcing of government schools. While the government views it as a solution to improve educational outcomes in underperforming schools, critics continue to express concerns over affordability and accessibility for poor families.
This verdict reinforces the Punjab government’s authority to implement reforms in the education sector under the Public-Private Partnership model.
