The School Education Department has shared new instructions because sometimes students are left behind in schools after closing time. This can be risky. To avoid any problem, schools are now told to properly check all areas and make sure every student has safely gone home.
INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING SAFETY OF STUDENTS AT THE TIME OF SCHOOL CLOSING
I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to state that it has been observed with concern that in certain instances, students remain unattended within school premises after school hours, thereby posing a serious safety risk. In order to ensure the safety and safe departure of all students, the Competent Authority has desired to issue the following instructions for strict compliance by all Principals/Heads of schools in the public & private schools:
- At the time of closing of school, the Head of Institution shall ensure that all places including classrooms, washrooms, labs, library, playgrounds and other areas are properly checked/cleared to confirm that no student is left behind in the school premises.
- A dedicated teacher/staff member shall be deputed daily on a rotation basis by the Head of Institution who shall ensure that all students have left the school for their homes at closing time.
- The deputed teacher shall not leave the school until it is verified that all students have safely departed.
- The Head of Institution shall be personally responsible for compliance of these instructions.
You are, therefore, requested to circulate these instructions to all Heads of schools under your jurisdiction for immediate compliance. Strict monitoring of compliance shall be ensured and any negligence in this regard shall be viewed seriously. Compliance report should be submitted to this Department within 24 hours.
